Sudden operator actions (e.g., slamming the swing control lever) or unexpected resistance (e.g., the swing structure hitting an obstacle) can create hydraulic pressure spikes—momentary surges in pressure that far exceed the safe operating limits of components like the swing motor, control valve, or hoses. These spikes can cause permanent damage (e.g., cracked valve bodies, leaking seals, or motor failure).
